About my Interest in Psychology

Sports Psychology
Sport Psychologists can work and help the athletes do many things. They are trained to help the athletes to perform better and to recover from injuries. Athletes depend on psychologists to help them forget about bad experiences in games so they can come back and fix their mistake. The psychologists can help them be calm about their upcoming competition. Another thing sports psychologists help with, is setting goals and helping the athlete achieve them. They will also do research on the athletes as they perform and look at their progress as they work with them.
A lot of colleges and schools have references and contacts for where the best sport psychologists are.
These sports psychologists can do a lot of things like teach at colleges or universities.

Educational Requirements
Most positions require at least having a masters. There are some openings that only require a bachelors, but they are not very common. There are several places that offer training and certificates. to be a sports psychologist. When you get certified, you are then able to open up your own business and practice by yourself. However, it may be advisable to work and partner up with someone that has more experience with running their own business. This will also help you to get some hands-on experience fresh out of college. There are not very programs that offer sports psychology. It will take some researching to find them. A lot of positions require some sort of experience that way you know what you are doing and you can start right away.

How this effects me

This branch of psychology means a lot to me because there is also someone out there needing a little push to set goals and achieving them. Coaches help a lot because they will prepare the athlete to achieve their goals. They will also work with the athlete so they can recover quickly and be ready for the next thing. Athletic Trainers need a little bit of psychology to help the athletes to recover quickly with their injuries and be prepared mentally to get back to the sport as soon as possible. I have experienced quite a few injuries in my athletic career and the trainers have always helped me stay positive.

  1. I am i am sorry to hear about your injuries, but i do think that your take on sports psychology is an awesome one. The idea that coaches have to be skilled in sports psychology is one that is important to coaches they are around the players everyday, because of this need to know how to get the players all on the same page. The design of your blog was great, and the content was very interesting.

  2. Hey Zach, I have been injured in football I had and ankle injury and had a hard time mentally recovering as it traumatized me sense it was my senior year and I missed a majority of the games making me fell pretty useless and a letdown to my team. Because of this I've had a hard time enjoying the sport. I think this field is an excellent one to show interest in as many people want/need this kind of help and you don't hear about is as much as some of the other fields.
